Someone close to me lives in Fife. Same weekly dance I used to do in Renfrewshire. Open the council site, type the postcode, squint at a calendar, close the tab, then guess from whatever colour is sitting on the neighbour’s pavement.

They had seen Renfrewshire Bin Schedule actually working and asked the obvious thing. Can you just do that for Fife?

I could have. Copying an app is a job you can finish in a week and call it a launch. Making one that knows the place is a different job.

Fife is not Renfrewshire with a different postcode prefix. Blue is landfill here. That still catches people out, especially anyone who moved from Glasgow or Lanarkshire and spent years treating blue as recycling. Green is cans and plastics. Grey is paper and card. Brown is food and garden. Glass does not go out at the kerb at all. It belongs at a bring site. Put a bottle in the green bin in St Andrews and you have contaminated a whole load.

The rhythm is awkward in a way a copied calendar would paper over. Blue and brown run fortnightly. Green and grey are closer to monthly. Brown drops back in winter. Bins want to be on the kerb early. And this is a coastal kingdom. A green bin on an exposed street in Anstruther or Burntisland will travel if the wind gets up. That is not a cute extra. That is Tuesday.

So I rebuilt the thing around those facts instead of cloning screens.

You type a Fife postcode (KY, and a few DD6 addresses on the Tay), pick the house, and the next collection is sitting there with the right colour on a 240 litre wheelie. There is a recycling guide that actually matches Fife rules, including the yes and no lists for the blue landfill bin, because that is the one people get wrong. Weather sits on the collection day, so you can see if the Forth is about to throw a bin down the street. The routine card is blunt: bins on the kerb by 6am, and if the wind is up, tuck them along a fence. Reminders fire the evening before, at a time you choose. Dark mode for the last check at night. You can change the bin colours if the defaults feel off.

There is a local deals tab as well. I am not going to pretend that is the reason anyone downloads a bin app. It is there because I like the idea of a small Fife utility doing a bit of local work while it has your attention.

Copying an app is easy. Giving it a Fife accent was the point.
